AI, ML, and UX/UI design: Anticipated future of UX/UI design and impact on roles
Over the ages, technology has reduced or eliminated the need for human intervention in many industries. We look at how technology is already influencing design in other industries and how it would relate to User Interface design. Moving ahead we look at progress being made in the current state of UI Design / Dev automation. We also discuss some approaches which appear to be workable which will influence the design going further. The way automation made some roles redundant, expertise is critical. We finally look at the impact on design jobs of the near future.

Naushad Shaikh is a designer with a diverse set of roles and experience.
He didn’t choose design, it happened to him and has stuck for now. He knows the power of design and the constraints of business, tech influence the outcome, irrespective of the intent. Most of his work experience includes balancing, juggling and justifying Design in Enterprise SaaS software domains.
Towards Accessible Spatial Audio Interfaces: On Screen Readers, Concurrent Speech, and the Auditory Torch
What if interfaces allowed persons with visual impairments to access more auditory information at a time, as well as more information through audio?
This presentation aims to briefly discuss how we are exploring these questions by studying Spatial Audio Interfaces in general, and the use of Concurrent Speech in particular.
More specifically, I will talk about
- The process of designing an experimental study to measure user performance on (and perception of) web-based search tasks using concurrent speech screen readers, and
- Ongoing work that explores the idea of an Auditory Torch as an accessible interaction technique for graphical user interfaces.

Rishi Vanukuru is a second year Master of Design student in the Interaction Design program at IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay.
Helping Low Literate Parents Engage with their Children’s Learning
I will present the work done to examine and enhance the role of parents in their child’s learning. We studied low literate parents’ reaction to invitations of engagement with their children. An ICT-based intervention was designed and deployed, and it was found that the parents responded positively to the invitation. I will discuss the study, design of the intervention and nuances of the parents’ responses and shortcomings.

Prachi Tank is a second year Master of Design student at IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay and has previously studied Communication Design. Her recent projects have been in the space of education, specifically services around education that can create value for the students and the stakeholders around them.
